Nier Gestalt (ニーア ゲシュタルト, Nīa Geshutaruto), styled as NieR Gestalt, is an action adventure video game developed by Cavia and published by Square Enix. It was released in 2010 only on the Xbox 360 in Japan, and released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Europe and North America as Nier, stylized as NIER.

A separate game was also made exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and for the Japanese market, known as NieR RepliCant. The game is based in the same world and is only different in regards to Nier's appearance, his relationship with the girl Yonah, and the year the game takes place. NieR Gestalt was simply titled NIER in Europe and North America, as it is the only version released there. The game was released in Japan on April 24, 2010 and North America on April 27, 2010.

NieR Gestalt continues off the fifth ending from the game Drakengard. An indirect sequel, titled NieR: Automata, were released on 2017 in Japan, and March worldwide.

Story[]

The plot is set 1300 years after the final fifth Drakengard and focuses on a family named Nier (whose name, however, is customizable by the player) intention to seek a cure for his daughter Yonah, hit by the terrible disease "Black Scrawl "tenth which whole villages and seemingly incurable. The population is reduced to the bone, and people always need a helping hand, also because of the constant attacks of shadow monsters known as "Shades"; Nier so often offered as a worker to be able to get the care that alleviate his daughter's pain. One day he discovers that Nier Yonah ventured outside the village in search of the "Lunar Tear", an imaginary flower able to fulfill any desire. After a short time can find it in "Lost Sanctuary" where at the same time meets "Grimoire Weiss," bizarre and pedantic tome speaker who, after being released from a spell, Nier offers to help him in his mission. Weiss is indeed able to cure "Black scrawl" getting "sealed Verses" and defeating the "Grimoire Noir", its ally dark counterpart to the "shadow king", because of the presence of the Shades and Black Scrawl in the world. Accompanying him on his trip will also be present Kaine, a young warrior who dresses and is expressed in promiscuous mode, and Emil, a sensitive boy with the power to petrify any thing just looking at her.
